MILKRICE-SRILANKAN TRADITIONAL DISH

 


 

250g Red or White Kakulu / any Raw Rice

2 Cups Thick coconut milk or 1 Tin thick coconut cream

 Salt to taste Water to cook the rice

 Method:

 

First wash the rice. Add enough water  to cook the rice.  Cook the rice. When the rice is half cooked put the tin of coconut cream or the thick coconut milk and salt. Cover and let it cook slowly in a moderate fire . Mix well all the time until it form into a thick consistency.  Then take the rice and spread the rice on  a platter and smooth the top with back of a spoon. before it gets cool  cut into  diamond shape pieces or square pieces just like you cut a cake.

Now your Milk Rice is ready, Srilankans eat it with onions chillie mixture or some sweets like juggary. You can try other things if you like.

 

 

 Milk Rice (Kiribath Sinhala) is a traditional SRILANKAN dish made from rice. It is prepared by cooking rice with coconut milk so this name, and can be considered a form of rice cake or rice puding.  Kiribath is an essential dish  SRILANLAN cuisine. Milk Rice  is very commonly served for breakfast on the first day of each month. It is eaten for any auspicious moment throughout one's lifetime which are marking times of transition such as weddings, birthdays, First day of a child goes to school and other festivals. It is one of the more renowned traditional dishes in SRILANKA.
